Causes of red clots in eyes – Dr. Mala Suresh

Red clots, medically known as subconjunctival hemorrhage can occur when there is bleeding under the transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye. Why does this occur? Most often it is spontaneous. There is no reason. Sometimes it can be very simple reason like rubbing the eye, coughing, or even sneezing and many occasions can be severe, following a trauma or it can be due to bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, if the patient is on blood thinners, if the patient has BP or hypertension and diabetes. Do we relate these hemorrhages to hypertension? Yes. When we see bleeding intensively, spontaneously, then we do get the BP checked up of the patient because most often in hypertensive patients the blood pressure architecture gets altered. They are so fragile that they can bleed spontaneously and it also sometimes an indication that the blood pressure is not under control. Even the patients who have the hypertension under control can develop these hemorrhages. Hence they needed to be evaluated because sometimes what you see the red clots in the eye, there could be red clots in your body where elsewhere which cannot be seen by you. Hence need to be investigated.

How to Get Rid of a Red Eye?

How to Get Rid of a Red Eye?

Have you ever looked in a mirror and noticed that your eyes were red? Whether you’ve been staring at a computer or TV screen for too long or are suffering from allergies, red eyes can be painful and ugly. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce the irritation and swelling. Eye redness can go hand-in-hand with dry eyes, so some treatments address both issues. Other problems such as infections, inflammation, ocular trauma, or a foreign body can cause redness. At those times, it is best to seek medical attention.
Do your research on eye drops. There are many different types of eye drops, each one recommended for different circumstances. For example, if you have red eyes and wear contact lenses, a blood vessel constricting drop may not work. It wouldn’t be able to get through the lens to treat your redness.
Consult your eye care professional. The best way to choose the right drops is to talk to you a specialist about the cause of your redness. Let him or her diagnose you and choose the best treatment method.
Use a cold compress on your eyes. Cold water will decrease the swelling that causes bloodshot eyes, and will also soothe on your irritated eyes. You can just splash some cold water onto your face.
Use ice or freeze-packs. Using ice is another common and effective way to soothe bloodshot eyes. Ice and freeze packs work the same way cold compresses do, by relieving swelling and reducing the amount of blood flow to the eyes.
Wait out a burst blood vessel. If you sneeze or cough too hard, or even just rub your eye vigorously, you can cause a blood vessel to burst. Doctors call this “subconjunctival hemorrhage.” In most cases, only one eye will be affected, and you won’t feel any pain. The blood vessel should heal itself naturally. It can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks.
Reduce the amount of time you look at screens. Studies show that our blinking rate decreases 10-fold when we’re staring at screens. Blinking is important to eye health because it keeps our eyes moisturized. Staring at laptops, TV monitors, and other electronic screens can cause your eyes to dry out and redden. If you have to look at screens for extended periods of time, take these precautions:
Consciously remind yourself to blink.
Follow the 20-20 rule: every twenty minutes, take a break from your screen and do something else for 20 seconds to a minute. Give your eyes a little breather.
Lower the brightness on your screen.
Place the screen 20-40 inches away from your eyes.

Adjust your electronic screens. If you have a job for which you have to use a computer or watch TV, you may not be able to reduce your screen time. You can still make small adjustments to lessen the burden on your eyes.
Avoid smoking. Irritants like smoke bother your eyes and cause unnecessary redness. Smoking also increases your risk for a variety of eye diseases, including cataracts, macular degeneration, uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye syndrome. Smoking while pregnant can even cause infant eye disease in an unborn baby.
Limit your alcohol intake. Drinking too much alcohol dehydrates the body. You lose nutrients important for tear production through increased urination. The combination of dehydration and nutrient loss causes dryness and redness in the eyes.
Eat a balanced diet. The food you eat can impact your eye health, along with the other organs in your body. Eat a balanced diet rich with omega 3 fatty acids (salmon, flaxseed, nuts, etc.) to ensure healthy eyes and prevent inflammation.

Causes of Bloodshot Eyes and How to fix it Naturally Get rid of Red eyes forever

Causes of Bloodshot Eyes and How to fix it Naturally | Get rid of Red eyes
Allergies cause Bloodshot Eyes
Many people are not aware that their household pets can cause bloodshot eyes,” says Dr. Fisher. She says that getting them groomed often and keeping their hair short can help with preventing your eyes from getting itchy and inflamed. Other allergies that cause bloodshot eyes are seasonal allergies and dust. Always make sure to keep your house clean, especially during seasons where there is a lot of pollen in the air. Another tip that Dr. Fisher recommends is changing out your carpets for hardwood floors. Beyond inflammation, allergies can also cause you to have watery eyes.
Problem 3: Certain medications Bloodshot Eyes effects
Many common medications that some people take on a daily basis can cause bloodshot eyes. Antihistamines, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety pills, and some pain relievers like ibuprofen cause dryness and redness by reducing blood flow to the tissue in and around the eye.
Problem 4: Not enough sleep causes effects
Your eyes need the chance to recharge overnight. If you are getting less than 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night, it could be causing bloodshot eyes. As a temporary fix, you can use moisturizing eye drops. But in the long run, it will be beneficial to work on normalizing your sleeping schedule and cutting out brightly lit screens at least one hour before bed to improve your quality of sleep.
Bloodshot eye for Contact lenses
Contact lenses can cause red, dry, and itchy eyes since you are constantly touching your eye and because the contact lens can dry out. Having something on the eye constantly can cause irritation. If you find that you can’t wear your contacts for long periods of time because of irritation, talk to your eye doctor about switching brands.
Infections cause red eyes
It is common to get both bacterial and viral infections in your eyes, especially if you are around children or use contact lenses. Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is the most well-known infection. Dr. Fisher says that if you see any discharge from the eye, are experiencing pain, reduced vision, or sensitivity, you most likely have pink eye and should see a doctor immediately.

How to Remove Red-Eye in Photoshop

You wont believe how quick and easy it is to remove red-eye in Photoshop! Learn how to fix those creepy pupils in today’s episode!

The Problem

Red-Eye occurs when a photo is taken with a flash that is too close to the subject. This is very common for on-camera flashes for that reason. To avoid the problem altogether, try using a larger flash such as a speedlight. Or, photograh in natural light instead.

The Solution

Click on the spot healing brush tool and go down to the bottom of the menu to select the red-eye tool. This tool works best when set to a 50% pupil size and a 50% darken amount. Click and drag around the eye, and let go. Voila! That’s all there is to it, folks.
