Here is the recipe to my home made non toxic insecticide that works great against spider mites:
2 liters of water
2 table spoons of dish detergent (a bio one is well suited)
1/4 cups of rubbing alcohol, isopropyl or ethanol
I mix everything up and spray the entire leaf surface of the orchid, the crown and in between leaves. It’s really important to get into the crevices, this is where spider mites hide.
The mixture can be poured in a spray bottle, or you can customize a bottle cap by darting some small holes. After spraying don’t rinse the orchid.
I apply it with every watering, every 5-7 days for at least a month. This will take care of the future generations of mites, as well as those who might have been transiting the furniture and didn’t get the first spray.
To dry off the orchids you can remove the excess liquid with a paper tower, or place the orchids in front of a fan for an hour or so. Even so keep in mind that some orchids, particularly those who have new pseudobulbs developing, are prone to rotting.
